Systems Engineer

Responsibilities:
The primary goal of the Systems Engineer is to ensure the smooth operation of our organizations infrastructure in order to provide maximum performance and availability for system users.
  • Assists with the building and maintenance of Windows servers and Red Hat servers
  • Performs basic Active Directory management
  • Assists with maintaining, and supporting the server and storage environments.
  • Contributes to projects as needed in order to upgrade to new and/or improved systems equipment and procedures.
  • Maintains and supports server and network monitoring tools
  • Participates in the proactive monitoring of system infrastructure and respond to issues.
  • Provides support for general server and device racking and cabling
  • Creates and maintain system documentation.
  • Manages server and storage infrastructure vendors.
  • Develops and maintain accurate infrastructure inventory
  • Documents and follows all policies and procedures for assigned tasks
  • Follows Performant IT policies and processes
  • Produces timely project progress reports, keep organization informed
  • Additional responsibilities may be assigned, as required, by management
  • On-Call required
Required Skills and Knowledge:
  • Hands-on working knowledge of Windows (2008, 2012), Active Directory, Linux, VMware, HP Servers, NetApp storage arrays and EMC Networker/Data Domain
  • Hardware and software troubleshooting experience and basic network connection troubleshooting
  • Working knowledge of infrastructure monitoring tools (Solarwinds preferred)
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws
  • Able to conduct research into system and networking issues and products as required
  • Ability to interact with management, stakeholders and business leaders in a professional manner
  • Highly self-motivated, organized and directed
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Proven analytic and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, take direction and report status
  • Ability to obtain security clearance for Public Trust Positions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Sit/stand/walk 8-12hr/day
  • Lift/carry/push/pull under and over 10lbs occasionally
  • Keying frequency, handling, reaching, fine manipulation
Education and Experience:
  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science, and/or 5 years equivalent work experience
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
  • Experience with client/server and operating system Remote Desktop Services, Citrix, and client VPN technologies, Solarwinds Monitoring, McAfee, Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), Red Hat Satellite Management a plus
